Ether J. - "I've just finished this course on Nebula and I can't praise it enough. I'm not a jazz player, but am a musician who performs in other genres. I've made learning jazz one of my top goals, but haven't made much progress. Most teachers focus on scales, chords, arpeggios, etc. I am so tired of these!! In this course, Aimee takes a musical approach by focusing on motifs. This is brilliant! I have learned so much from these lessons that I just had to write about them. I now have an approach that I can understand to do my own solos. Thank you Aimee! You are the best!"

A gentle first step toward getting that "block chord" sound into your jazz piano playing, just like George Shearing.
A fun look at the music theory behind the genius modulation device Jacob Collier used in his Djesse 2022 World Tour at the Wilshire in Los Angeles on Every Time We Say Goodbye
Justin Varnes, Brett Belanger and I had a blast opening up for the great carl Allen at the Cola Jazz Fest on 9/24/2022
As musicians, we have our own unique struggles when it comes to practicing our craft. Not wanting anyone to hear you practice is normal. At least for me it is.

Using examples from Miles Davis's and Dizzy Gillespie's bands, I talk about what it's like to solo over "a tag" and actually solo over one for over 11 minutes on the piano. 1-6-2-5, 3-6-2-5, and other variations are such an integral part of the jazz vocabulary!
Using famous solos by Eddie Van Halen, Mark Knopfler, George Harrison, and Slash, we look at what it takes to actually "take a solo." What goes on behind the solo, what is in the mind of the performer - the chords, the form of the song, and the confines and freedoms that go into soloing.
How is your knowledge of the blues? Do you think you can recognize these obscure blueses - and can I fool you with a couple that aren't anywhere close to being blueses? We'll talk form, music theory, style, meter and have a bunch of fun while we play this game or sorts.
