Ether J. - "I've just finished this course on Nebula and I can't praise it enough. I'm not a jazz player, but am a musician who performs in other genres. I've made learning jazz one of my top goals, but haven't made much progress. Most teachers focus on scales, chords, arpeggios, etc. I am so tired of these!! In this course, Aimee takes a musical approach by focusing on motifs. This is brilliant! I have learned so much from these lessons that I just had to write about them. I now have an approach that I can understand to do my own solos. Thank you Aimee! You are the best!"

Sometimes I try and see if I can sing a song with no accompaniment and cover all of the harmony myself. This idea follows the example of Bobby McFerrin on his famous “Blackbird” performances - those recordings changed me in many ways and I love the challenge.
Ok, so you think you know about 251s - but can you recognize them when they occur in songs? Can your ears tell the difference between a major 251 and a minor? It's time to practice with me. Let's go!
There is so much to learn before you can adequately comp - before you can successfully be the one in the band who lays down the harmony for everyone else. Whether you are a piano, organ, guitar, or vibes player in your jazz band, this video will provide an overview, but also very specific advice about how to comp - from voicings to rhythms to a deep understanding of what your purpose is as a chord instrument.
Rosana Eckert - Principal Lecturer of Vocal Jazz at the University of Northern Texas, is one of the best improvisers and educators I know of. Without an instrument to press buttons on (a singer), Rosana has to accurately call up pitches from her improv vocabulary and execute them at top speed. Her ability to do this is matched only by a handful of people, in my opinion. Looking primarily at the strange music trends from the 1950s, we discuss the novelty song in its many forms - and how Mitch Miller (who helped launch the careers of Frank Sinatra, Rosemary Clooney, Doris Day and more) tried to steer Columbia Records away from the Rock n Roll craze. It'll be a walk down memory lane for many of you as we look at the influence of Lawrence Welk, Disney, Perry Como, Brian Hyland, Peggy Lee and many more greats from music history.
Aimee Nolte performs in duos, trios, and big bands as a jazz pianist and singer. Live performances
